BARRIER® surgical masks fulfil EU standards (EN 14683)

The European standard EN 14683 states that the main intended use of surgical masks is to protect the patients from infective agents from the noses and mouths of the staff and, in certain situations, to protect the wearer against splashes of potentially contaminated liquids.

All BARRIER® surgical masks meet the requirements of the various classifications in the EN 14683. The masks are classified into two types according to bacterial filtration efficiency and differential pressure. Each type is further divided by whether or not the masks are splash resistant.

For further information on specifications and recommendations on when to use different types of masks see ANNEX A, Information for users in the EN 14683:2005.
