Hospital sees advances in processes, quality, and hygiene using cost-effective ProcedurePak® trays

By: Mölnlycke Health Care, October 30 2012Posted in: O.R. efficiency

Progressive care providers such as Wiener Privatklinik, a leading private hospital in Austria, have recognized the multiple benefits of single-use products and customized procedure trays for various procedures. Such products help healthcare facilities meet stringent quality, hygienic and cost-cutting demands.

ProcedurePak trays significantly contribute to a user demand-driven, efficient use of resources. They also help avoid unnecessary packaging waste.”

Customized procedure trays and single-use products help improve efficiency and reduce overall cost

“Our vision is to provide excellent medical services through highly skilled surgeons as well as structured, professional processes and nursing care,” explains Robert N. Winkler, Director of Wiener Privatklinik, an ISO 9001 certified facility in Vienna. “Roughly half of our patients require surgery,” he adds. “Our four ORs are fully equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology and play a key role in providing clinical care and generating revenue.”

“O.R. scheduling, daily surgical routines, on-time availability of resources, and compliance with hygiene requirements are the top challenges in this department,” says Head O.R. Nurse Krista Keiblinger. She recalls the situation before the introduction of ProcedurePak trays from Mölnlycke Health Care: sets of reusable sterile drapes and gowns as well as single-use individually packed components were commonplace.

This approach was time-consuming and costly. For this reason, hospital managers decided in 2009 to introduce ProcedurePak trays from Mölnlycke Health Care as well as single-use surgical drapes and gowns. Several goals were linked to this contract: unifying and facilitating the procurement process; strict hygiene requirements from surgeons, especially for orthopaedics and emergency medicine; and reducing cost and diminishing packaging waste since all single-use components needed for a procedure now come pre-assembled in one packaging.
