Effective method
Silicone gel sheeting has been shown to be an effective method for the treatment of hypertrophic and keloid scars. In long standing scars, improvement in appearance is seen with the use of silicone gel sheeting. In fresh scars, silicone gel sheeting appears to be effective in reducing the rate of recurrence of hypertrophic scars after full-thickness surgical revisions and scar abrasion.

Instructions for use

  • Wash and then dry hands with a clean, dry towel. Wash and then dry the scar site with a clean, dry towel.
  • Open the sterile Mepiform Sheet package by firmly grasping the two sides of the packaging and pulling them apart.
  • Gently remove the Mepiform Sheet from the tray.
  • The nylon net overlay should remain on the top side of the Mepiform Sheet to help prevent adhesion to clothes.
  • If needed, trim the Mepiform Sheet to a size and shape slightly larger than the scar to be covered. Multiple sheets may be used, side by side, to cover a large scar.
  • Place Mepiform Sheet on the scar.
  • Secure with an appropriate tape or support bandage covering to ensure that the Mepiform Sheet does not slide off the scar site. DO NOT wrap too tightly; this may lead to irritation of the scar site.
  • Mepiform Sheet may be worn for up to 24 hours per day (a minimum of 12 hours per day is recommended). Clean the Mepiform Sheet after every 24 hours of use. Upon removal, wash the scar site and Mepiform Sheet gently with a mild soap and warm water. Dry scar site and Mepiform Sheet and then reapply. Removal of the nylon net overlay is necessary when cleaning the Mepiform Sheet. Replace nylon net overlay before using the Mepiform Sheet again.
